Camden Town to Leicester Square Tube Walk

Camden Town to Mornington Crescent

After completing the Bank branch of the Northern line I head back to Camden Town to walk the Charing Cross branch.

I leave Camden Town tube station and walk south down Camden High Street.

At the end of Camden High Street I reach Mornington Crescent tube station. Mornington Crescent has a game on the BBC Radio 4 show ‘I haven’t got a clue’ named after it.

Mornington Crescent to Euston

Next I walk down Hampstead Road. One of the most striking building on this road is the former Carreras Cigarette Factory. The black cat figures on the building are there because the company sold a brand of cigarettes called ‘Black Cat’.

There are quite a few tower blocks on this road and in the distance the BT Tower becomes visible.

I turn onto Drummond street which has a number of good Indian restaurants on it as well as a shop selling many interesting spices. I then reach Euston tube station.

Euston to Warren Street

I leave Euston and make a short walk along Euston Road.

I soon arrive at Warren Street underground station.

Warren Street to Goodge Street

The area between Warren Street and Goodge Street contains many furniture and bed shops.

Goodge Street tube station is about half way down Tottenham Court Road.

Goodge Street to Tottenham Court Road

Just opposite Goodge Street station in Chenies Street I spot another of the entrances to a London air raid shelters. All eight of the completed deep level air raid shelters in London happen to be on the Northern line. It was originally planned that after the war the shelter tunnels could be extended to create a new underground express-way but this never happened. Each shelter housed 8000 people.

There are loads of electronics shops between Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road.

After passing the Dominion Theatre which is currently home to the ‘We Will Rock You’ musical I arrive at Tottenham Court Road tube station.

Tottenham Court Road to Leicester Square

I then walk down Charing Cross Road passing the Centre Point Tower and the local book shops.

Shortly after Cambridge Circus I get to Leicester Square tube station.
