Shadwell to Wapping

11th December 2007

Shadwell to Wapping takes us into a different world. I take the route East along Cable Street passing the fire station and down King David Lane.

We leave the working class Whitechapel behind and move into an area dominated by the wharfs of the docklands and newly built flats. Below we see new flats in the Shadwell Basin area. This used to be a working dock, but these days it is just there to look good. Canary Wharf is visible in the background.

From here I walked over the Shadwell Basin bascule bridge which still works but is rarely raised.

Following Gamet Street past colourful houses and old wharfs takes us to Wapping High Street where a right turn gets me to my next stop – Wapping underground station.
