This is the 54th day of my London Underground tube walking challenge. It is also the last day. Today I will complete the final section of the 12th and final underground line.</p>
<p><strong>Kensington (Olympia) to Earl&#8217;s Court</strong></p>
<p>I start at Kensington (Olympia). It is named after the Olympia Exhibition Building which is next to the station. This Exhibition building is run by the same people who run the nearby Earl&#8217;s Court Exhibition Building.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080512/dsc05134_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05134_th.jpg" width="218" height="177"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05136_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05136_th.jpg" width="216" height="175"></a><br />
<iframe width="450" height="400" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="/scripts/loadmap.php?mapxml=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.londonphotoproject.co.uk%2Fdata%2F080512%2Ftrack_district06.kml&amp;width=450&amp;height=400&amp;lat=51.49453&amp;lng=-0.201101&amp;zoom=14"><br />
<small>[<a href="http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&amp;hl=en&amp;q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.londonphotoproject.co.uk%2Fdata%2F080512%2Ftrack_district06.kml&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;om=1&amp;source=embed"  style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left" target="_blank">Map</a>]</small><br />
</iframe><br /><small><a href="http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&amp;hl=en&amp;q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.londonphotoproject.co.uk%2Fdata%2F080512%2Ftrack_district06.kml&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;om=1&amp;source=embed"  style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left" target="_blank">View Larger Map</a></small> | <small><a href="http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&amp;hl=en&amp;q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.londonphotoproject.co.uk%2Fdata%2F080512%2Ftrackphoto_district06.kml&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;om=1&amp;source=embed"  style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left" target="_blank">View Photo Tagged Map</a></small><br />
<br />
I head south and briefly pass along Kensington High Street before going into Warwick Road. Warwick Road has a Homebase and a Tesco superstore and a number of housing blocks.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080512/dsc05137_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05137_th.jpg" width="206" height="161"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05139_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05139_th.jpg" width="210" height="167"></a><br />
Beyond the housing blocks is the Earl&#8217;s Court Exhibition Building. It doesn&#8217;t look like there is a show on today as the gates are closed.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080512/dsc05140_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05140_th.jpg" width="212" height="169"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05143_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05143_th.jpg" width="208" height="163"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05144_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05144_th.jpg" width="206" height="161"></a><br />
I pass the west entrance of Earl&#8217;s Court tube station, walk along Penywern Road and then get to the east entrance of Earl&#8217;s Court.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080512/dsc05145_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05145_th.jpg" width="212" height="169"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05147_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05147_th.jpg" width="210" height="165"></a></p>
<p><strong>Earl&#8217;s Court to High Street Kensington</strong></p>
<p>I pass the Dr Who Police Box outside Earl&#8217;s Court underground station and then walk north up Earl&#8217;s Court Road. Along the way I spot this van which had two toy dogs positioned just in front of it. I have no idea why.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080512/dsc05148_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05148_th.jpg" width="222" height="278"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05150_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05150_th.jpg" width="212" height="169"></a><br />

I get back onto High Street Kensington head east past the many shops and then arrive at High Street Kensington tube station.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080512/dsc05153_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05153_th.jpg" width="222" height="181"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05155_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05155_th.jpg" width="212" height="169"></a></p>
<p><strong>High Street Kensington to Notting Hill Gate</strong></p>
<p>I pass the former Barker&#8217;s department store and then turn left into Kensington Church Street.</p>

This area is well known for its antique shops, a few of them are pictured here.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080512/dsc05160_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05160_th.jpg" width="210" height="165"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05165_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05165_th.jpg" width="216" height="173"></a><br />

On Moscow Road I pass a church and several more mansion blocks (Bayswater is home to loads of them) before reaching Bayswater tube station which is on the Queensway.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080512/dsc05171_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05171_th.jpg" width="214" height="171"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05172_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05172_th.jpg" width="220" height="181"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05173_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05173_th.jpg" width="220" height="179"></a></p>
<p><strong>Bayswater to Paddington</strong></p>
<p>I walk a short way up Queensway and turn right into Porchester Gardens passing a mansion block and the 1950&#8217;s Hallfield Estate.</p>

On Eastbourne Terrace many of the old office blocks have been renovated with new glass fronts. On Praed Street I reach Paddington tube station.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080512/dsc05179_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05179_th.jpg" width="220" height="181"></a><a href="/data/080512/dsc05180_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080512/dsc05180_th.jpg" width="222" height="183"></a></p>
<p><strong>Paddington to Edgware Road</strong></p>
<p>I continue along Praed Street passing the local shops and the famous St. Mary&#8217;s Hospital where Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin.</p>

At the far end of this road some of the new blocks of flats which surround the Paddington Basin come into view. I also pass the Hilton London Metropole Hotel.</p>

I cross Edgware Road, walk along Chapel Street, and then reach Edgware Road tube station; the final tube station on my tube walking journey.</p>

<br />
After passing a war memmorial I see a very oddly coloured house on Heathfield Terrace.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04941_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04941_th.jpg" width="218" height="177"></a><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04942_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04942_th.jpg" width="218" height="177"></a><br />
On Harvard Road I see a Greek Orthodox Church with a very bright dome. You need to be observant to find Gunnersbury tube station from here. There is a very small alley that leads to it. The main entrance must be on Chiswick High Road. I pass along the alley and reach the station.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04945_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04945_th.jpg" width="214" height="171"></a><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04946_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04946_th.jpg" width="226" height="280"></a></p>
<p><strong>Gunnersbury to Kew Gardens</strong></p>
<p>I head towards Kew Bridge passing a number of shops. When I cross the bridge it looks like it is low tide.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04947_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04947_th.jpg" width="222" height="183"></a><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04949_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04949_th.jpg" width="214" height="173"></a><br />

<br />
There are a number of boats moored at the Kew Gardens Pier.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04951_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04951_th.jpg" width="214" height="171"></a><br />
This is a very leafy area best known for Kew Gardens itself. The Gardens can&#8217;t be seen from my vantage point due to this large wall surrounding them.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04955_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04955_th.jpg" width="222" height="183"></a><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04956_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04956_th.jpg" width="220" height="179"></a><br />
In a small shopping area I find Kew Gardens tube station.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04957_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04957_th.jpg" width="208" height="165"></a><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04959_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04959_th.jpg" width="212" height="171"></a></p>
<p><strong>Kew Gardens to Richmond</strong></p>
<p>I walk south along Sandycombe Road which is a residential street.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04960_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04960_th.jpg" width="220" height="179"></a><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04963_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04963_th.jpg" width="212" height="169"></a><br />

I then turn right into Lower Mortlake Road and head towards Richmond.</p>
<p><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04964_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04964_th.jpg" width="216" height="175"></a><a href="/data/080428b/dsc04965_full.jpg" border="0" target="_blank"><img src="/data/080428b/dsc04965_th.jpg" width="208" height="163"></a><br />
Here is Richmond station the final stop on this branch of the District line.</p>

<p><strong>District Line Walk - Day 4 (Walk 2) Summary</strong></p>
